Creating units for products

Written by Adrian Berger

In Xentral, you can assign different units to your items. Typical units include, for example, pieces (pcs), liters (L), and kilograms (kg). Units are displayed in documents, bill of materials, and modules such as Production.

Note

Xentral already provides you with the most common units. You can select these directly in the product.

Create a new product unit

  1. Go to Administration > Master data > Product units.

  2. Click +NEW.

  3. Enter a name for your Unit, e.g. pcs or kg.. Additionally, you can enter an internal note, which will be displayed when you edit the unit.

  4. Click Save.

The new unit will be added to the overview table Product Units. Here, you can see all your units, edit them, and delete them.

Note

If you delete a unit that you’ve previously assigned to an article, this unit will no longer be selectable for new articles. However, it will remain in existing articles until you change it there.

Translating a product unit into a different language

You can translate your units into other languages. For example, you can display the unit pcs (pieces) as Stk (Stück) for German customers. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to Administration > Master data > Product units.

  2. Click the Edit icon of the unit you want to translate.

  3. Click the Globe icon.

  4. Click New entry.

  5. Select the Language you want to translate your unit into.

  6. Enter your Translation.

  7. Click Save.

Your translation now appears in the list of current translations for this unit.

Note

You can find all of your translations in the Translations module by typing the term "unit" into the search bar within the Translations module. You can also make changes to translations system-wide here.

Assign a unit to a product

You can assign your units to prodcuts. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Go to Master data > Product > Select the product > Tab Details.

  2. Select a unit from the field Unit in the Stock / dimensions section.

  3. Click Save.

The unit is now assigned to this product. You can make changes in existing products in the same way.

Display units on documents

You can display your units on documents.

For this you need to select the checkmark for the option tem unit in the documen under Administration > System > Basic settings > Tab System in the Receipts section.

This will create a new column in all documents like offer, invoice, delivery note, etc. where the unit will be displayed.

Special Function: Standard Product Unit

In Xentral, go to System Settings. Choose Administration > System > Basic Settings > System tab. In the Product section, you will find a text field for the Standard product unit. If you enter a value here, it will be automatically assigned to all items without a unit in documents. This is particularly useful if, for example, you do not have the ability to control the quantities of your items with a unit during daily shop imports.
